Introducing Smarter Shipping Weight Modeling in OrderEase

3 min read

Today, we’re introducing an automated weight calculation improvement designed to strengthen shipping data accuracy inside OrderEase. This update ensures more complete logistics data across order and fulfillment workflows while preserving structured data integrity.

Why Shipping Data Completeness Matters

Many systems assume that packaging data is always available and fully maintained inside product catalogs or ERP records.

In practice, suppliers often operate with incomplete packaging information. Unit-level weights may exist while final case-level weights remain undefined, particularly when products are packed in multiple configurations or when packaging changes over time. When systems require complete inputs to function correctly, teams are forced to manually calculate shipping weights, update records after the fact, or process shipments with incomplete data.

OrderEase now automatically calculates shipping weight when case-level weight data is unavailable. By leveraging existing product weight data and pack size, the system generates a reliable calculated shipping weight. This eliminates operational friction while maintaining structured data integrity across order processing and fulfillment workflows.

How It Works

Core Structural Change

OrderEase now supports automatic fallback weight calculation when a case-level shipping weight is not defined.

When product records contain unit-level weight but do not include a defined case or multi-unit packaging weight, the system generates a calculated shipping weight by multiplying the unit weight by the pack quantity associated with the order.

The calculated value is applied during shipping-related workflows to ensure that shipment records retain complete weight data. This preserves consistency across fulfillment processes, reporting, and integrations with downstream logistics systems.

Because the calculation relies on existing structured product data — unit weight and pack size — records remain searchable, reportable, and aligned with ERP systems and shipping integrations.

No manual weight calculation or additional data entry is required.

Built for Operational Integrity

By allowing intelligent fallback weight calculation, OrderEase strengthens the operational integrity of shipping and fulfillment processes.

Operations teams can process shipments without pausing to locate missing packaging data. Logistics partners receive more reliable shipment information, reducing the risk of freight miscalculations or downstream reconciliation.

Finance and operations teams continue working from the same authoritative order records while maintaining structured data aligned with ERP and logistics integrations.

This release removes operational friction caused by incomplete packaging data while preserving control — reinforcing OrderEase as operational infrastructure built for modern B2B commerce.
